Billview — Time Tracking, Timesheets & Worklog Reports for Jira

This guide covers installation, daily usage, reports, billing rates, and CSV export. If you can't find what you're looking for, email [email protected] — we usually reply within one business day.

1. Installation

Install Billview from the Atlassian Marketplace listing on your Jira Cloud site. Only Jira administrators can install apps. Once installed, the app appears as a new item in the left sidebar of your Jira instance and as a panel inside every issue.

No configuration is required to start tracking time — the app works immediately after installation.

2. Tracking time with the timer

Open any Jira issue. You'll see a Billview panel with a timer control.

  • Start — begins tracking time on the current issue
  • Pause / Resume — pauses the timer without losing elapsed time
  • Stop — ends the session and automatically creates a Jira worklog with the tracked duration

You can add an optional comment before stopping the timer — it will be saved as the worklog description. Only one timer can run per user at a time; starting a timer on a new issue automatically stops any timer already running elsewhere.

For safety, a running timer is automatically capped at 7 days. If you forget to stop a timer, it will not log an unreasonably large amount of time.

3. Manual time entry

If you prefer not to use the live timer, you can log time manually from the issue panel — enter the duration, date, and an optional comment. This creates a standard Jira worklog, identical to using Jira's native "Log work" feature.

4. Reports

The main Billview page (left sidebar) gives you a reporting dashboard with the following filters:

  • Date range — any custom period, or quick presets (this week, this month)
  • Project — filter to one or more Jira projects
  • User — filter to one or more team members

The report breaks down logged time by user, by project, and by individual issue, including:

  • Total hours logged
  • Billable amount (if hourly rates are configured — see Section 5)
  • Share of total time per project

5. Billing rates

Jira administrators can set hourly rates per user from the Settings page within Billview. Rates are used only to calculate billable amounts in reports and exports — they do not affect time tracking itself.

Privacy note: non-admin users can only see their own effective rate. Other users' rates are never exposed to anyone other than Jira administrators.

Each user can optionally set a personal rate that overrides the admin-configured default — useful for contractors or mixed-currency teams. Currency is set manually per workspace; Billview does not fetch live exchange rates from external services, so all data stays within Atlassian's infrastructure.

6. Exporting to CSV

From the Reports page, click Export CSV after applying your filters. The export respects the currently selected date range, project, and user filters, and includes: user, project, issue key, date, duration, comment, and billable amount.

The export link is single-use and expires after 5 minutes for security — if it expires before you download the file, simply click Export again.

8. Data and security

All data is stored exclusively in Atlassian Forge Storage — Billview does not operate any external servers or databases. For full details, see our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum.

9. Frequently asked questions

Does Billview work with Jira Service Management?

Not currently. Billview is built and tested for Jira Software only.

Can I edit or delete a worklog after logging it?

Yes — worklogs created by Billview are standard Jira worklogs and can be edited or deleted from the issue like any other worklog.

What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?

Worklogs already created in Jira remain untouched, since they are native Jira data. App-specific data (timer state, rates, settings) stored in Forge Storage is removed according to Atlassian's Forge data deletion policy.

Is there a free plan?

Yes — Billview is free for teams of up to 10 users, with no feature limitations.

10. Support

Email [email protected] with any questions, bug reports, or feature requests. Support hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00–18:00 CET, with responses typically within one business day.
